I recently became a granddad!
I’m a veteran and a small business owner. I am very active in my community. I’m a Mason, a Shriner, and a Sottish Rite Mason. These various organizations improve men in our community and raise money for great causes. These range from college scholarships for promising students to the transportation (Q Foundation for Kids) and care of sick children through the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals to speech therapy for children through the Scottish Rite’s Rite Care clinics. I believe we are all called to help our fellow man, to stand as a good example for the younger generations, and to leave a legacy for our families.
What I Do and Why
I help people through a difficult topic: death. The topic doesn’t make for great dinner conversation or a topic to have during the holidays. Some people get very uncomfortable facing what is inevitable for every single one of us. It doesn’t have to be a gloomy conversation. Hopefully we will all live to a very old age and enjoy every second of it with our spouse, children and grandchildren and hopefully great grandchildren! What makes life even more enjoyable is knowing that we planned for the inevitable. Knowing that our children and grandchildren will not need to bear a financial burden for our final expenses. Hopefully, we will all know that we will face our own mortality with dignity, and with the financial strength to carry out our final wishes.
I’m at an age now that my parents and my wife’s parents are at the stage in life where this applies to them. I know how hard it can be, but it’s important to have this conversation and prepare for the future.
